Online shopping now safer with Verified by Visa

CUA has enhanced the security of CUA Visa Debit cards with Verified by Visa - an easy-to-use fraud prevention program that confirms your identity when shopping online with participating merchants.

All existing CUA Visa Debit cards will be automatically registered from 1 April 2011, joining more than 355 million Visa cardholders for this free service.

Throughout the world a growing number of merchants, currently more than 200,000, are offering Verified by Visa. Look for the symbol as a sign these merchants value your business and your security.

Even if you don’t shop online yourself, the service makes it difficult for fraudsters to use your Visa card details online.

When you’re Verified by Visa, you’re good to go!

What is Verified by Visa?

Verified by Visa is an initiative of Visa International to increase consumer security when shopping over the internet. Each time you use your Visa Debit card to make a purchase online at participating merchants, Verified by Visa will screen the transaction details for potential risks or fraudulent card activity. 

How will this affect me?

Once you enter your card details with a participating online merchant, the transaction will be risk assessed and a verification screen may appear before you can continue with the purchase. On this additional screen you may be asked some security questions to confirm that you are the legitimate card holder and that you wish to proceed with the transaction. Your privacy is our priority and this information is used only to verify your identity.

What security questions will I be asked?

Verified by Visa will ask you questions that you can answer, such as your full name as it appears on your Visa Debit card, your date of birth and/or your CUA membership number.

Do I need to register?

No. You do not need to do anything to register with Verified by Visa. CUA is registering every active Visa Debit card we have issued to our members and will update the registration daily.

When will this take effect?

All existing CUA Visa Debit cards will be automatically registered from 1 April 2011.

Where can I shop with Verified by Visa?

You can still use your CUA Visa Debit card for all online purchases. For safer online shopping, we recommend you look for the Verified by Visa symbol at online stores. A current list of participating merchants is available on the Visa Asia website.

What if I forget my membership number?

Your CUA membership number appears on your CUA statement.

What if CUA don't have my date of birth listed?

CUA will identify members where we don’t have a date of birth recorded and will contact you over the coming months to update your details.

Do I need special equipment or software on my computer?

No. All you need is an internet connection and Internet Explorer, Netscape or AOL browser software version 4.0 or above. To find out if your browser is compatible, go to the 'Help' menu on the upper right hand side of your browser and select the ‘About’ option. This will tell you what version is installed on your computer.
