Newcastle supporters jet to the top of the prize pool
Newcastle United Jets supporters Andrei Gromeck and Ron Leatham took a shot at the prize pool and each won a signed player's jersey and the chance to meet Jets players Ben Kennedy, Scott Tunbridge and Jason Hoffman after entering the CUA ‘Take a Shot' competition.
Mr Gromeck said he hadn't expected to win but was ecstatic when he received the news.
"I did the CUA financial health check on the competition website to find out how well I was doing with my finances and the benefit of that was the chance to enter the competition," he said.
"I hoped my name would be drawn but never expected to win.
"Something else I didn't expect was the chance I was given to meet some of the Jets players. It was great to talk to them and have them present me with the jersey I won."
Mr Leatham, a recent supporter of the team, said the win was a great way to celebrate his new found sport focus.
"I'm not a traditional Jets supporter but recently began to get behind them because they're a great team and our grandchildren are huge supporters," he said.
"We always watch their games on the big screen at our local club.
"I've been a CUA member for quite a long time and was excited about the competition when I saw an advertisement about it in my local branch.
"I entered for a bit of fun and no way did I expect to win.
"Now that I've won the jersey I'm going to hang it up - the grandkids aren't getting this one!"
CUA ran the Take a Shot competition in conjunction with a $22,000 sponsorship deal they signed with the Jets for the 07/08 season late last year.
CUA also donates $250 towards the Jets' preferred charity, Wesley Mission Newcastle for every home loan funded to club members and friends through its Maitland and Kotara branches. Loan applicants simply need to mention the Jets on their application.
