CUA Regional Manager wins in international arena with WYCUP Scholarship success
09 September 2009
CUA (Credit Union Australia) Regional Manager for Queensland Metro Ross Lambrick has been awarded one of five WOCCU (World Council of Credit Union) Young Credit Union People (WYCUP) Scholarships for his work and achievements within the Australian mutual industry.
WYCUP is an annual scholarship program designed to engage and promote the next generation of credit union professionals and volunteers in the international credit union movement.
Mr Lambrick said he had made it to the WOCCU conference in Barcelona, Spain, thanks to a previous industry award win and had been hoping to win one of the scholarships but was not expecting it.
“I was thrilled when I was announced one of the five winners of a WYCUP Scholarship because it means international recognition within my industry,” he said. “It’s quite a personal achievement for me and I was proud to represent CUA and the Australian mutual industry as a whole.
“The win means I will be organising next year’s WYCUP program alongside the four other scholarship winners as a part of the 2010 WOCCU conference in Las Vegas, and the scholarship will cover all my conference related expenses. Part of my role involves helping prepare a one-day workshop for the international WYCUP young people to learn additional leadership skills to what they have already acquired.”
CUA CEO Chris Whitehead said the scholarship win was a great achievement and he was glad one of the five scholarships had gone to someone as deserving as Ross.
“Ross has invested a lot of time and energy into the Victorian, Queensland and national credit union industries. Over the last few years Ross instituted a real change at mutuals with his leadership group which identified and then filled in the ‘gap’ between senior credit union management and future credit union leaders. Ross’s ‘future leaders of the industry’ group has become an industry template. Now, he’s helping emerging leaders in credit unions worldwide and deserves his success.”
“This scholarship win is not the first time Ross has been recognised for his achievements within the industry,” Chris added.
“In 2008 he won credit union industry body ABACUS’ ‘Emerging Leaders’ Award; in 2005 he won an Australian Mutuals Institute (AMI) ‘Commendation for Young Leaders’ Award and in 2006 he won the inaugural MBA Scholarship through AMI. So, we are very proud Ross has and continues to represent CUA and the Australian credit union industry at a local, national and international level.”
