Choosing the right shoe can make a big difference to how you feel at the end of the day.
Protect your feet: things to look for in a comfy shoe
Here are some key tips for picking comfortable shoes that support your feet:
- Most people’s feet tend to swell during the day, so it’s best to shop for shoes towards the end of the day – when your feet are at their largest.
- Make sure there’s a gap of about 1 cm from the end of your largest toe to the edge of the shoe. This is to make sure the shoes don’t damage your nails and toes.
- Ensure your shoes are broad enough and deep enough. According to the Australian Podiatry Association, “if you can see the outline of your feet pressing against your shoes, they’re probably too narrow”.
- Don’t buy into the myth that shoes just need breaking in. Find shoes that are immediately comfortable, and your feet will thank you for it!
